I am a Sonic Forces truther, and this game is good, damn it! Sonic Forces never got a fair shake, overshadowed by and often compared to the nearly perfect Sonic Mania, which was released two months prior. But for my money, this is the best of the 3D Sonic platformers.

Despite all the fun, I can’t help but feel that Sonic would deserve more, just like his fans. That’s not to say that some won’t enjoy Sonic Frontiers, it’s just that the franchise doesn’t seem like it’s going into the right direction. Sonic Frontiers is an unsteady first run at the open-world genre for the blue blur but Sonic Team has crafted something endearing and immensely enjoyable all the same.
